Love isn’t blind

Kathleen Chesto is an American theologian famous for developing family spirituality. In one of her videos she says something that touches me deeply, which is worthy of sharing.

She says that society hands us this wonderful myth that “love is blind”. This belief is sometimes used to dismiss others people’s opinions about who to love: “Yeah, but you’re biased/prejudiced because you love them/they’re yours. Love is blind.” However, if that were true, that would mean that God is blind, because He loves all His creatures; and she does not believe that. No one knows and sees us like God does. Therefore, that would mean that Love is the only vision that is true, that is worthwhile.

Sometimes I see in the world around that people prevent themselves from loving, thinking that they will be taken advantage of because they are blind to the other person’s intentions. Yet, I think that Kathleen is right. Only Love can open our eyes; Love is our safety and our light. We can never love too much. It is always needed. So let’s not be afraid of showing it.
