In Waiting

It is hard to think of Advent as a time of waiting when we can’t wait for exams to be over, for school to finish, for vacation from work, for Christmas shopping to be done… *sigh* But Advent is a time of pregnant waiting, waiting for the incredible promises of the Lord to come true… because they will happen sooner than we think, and answer our desires more wonderfully than anything we could ever imagine or live! Are we ready?

In Waiting Dedicated to Andrew Youssef

Have I learned how to wait?

  • I see our minds suspended in our wishes
  • Our arms aimed forward and high
  • Will we not pause for just a moment?
  • No, my utter disregard for what demands patience.

Waiting is surrender.

  • Why must I always choose to resist?
  • Weary and humbled from the forcing, the thinking
  • Dropping the twists that I clung to so long
  • Feeling the relief of deciding to be lighthearted.

Waiting is growing.

  • Why must you want what I don’t and I what you don’t?
  • If we are all afraid of each other, how will we ever reach out
  • For that deep love that comes about
  • From ripened hearts and ready hands?

Waiting is peace.

  • How did I let all this beauty pass by?
  • Excuses given for an ambition
  • That made me miss a glorious smile, rainbow eyes, genuine care
  • Never will I forsake these again.

Waiting is hope.

  • Trusting without fail that what was promised us will come to be
  • That I am not the author of the books of time
  • That He does not want for us mediocrity, but the sweetest of breads
  • That the dream will grow into a reality much greater than what I now see.

Waiting is dancing, relentlessly, until the fulfillment of our hearts is complete…
